Weddings Part 2: Evening Weddings

evewed12evewed4evewed2evewed11evewed10evewed7evewed1evewed8evewed5evewed9evewed6**I had the amazing opportunity to attend the wedding of my friend in Laconia, NH which was just so perfectly timed for this post! The venue was absolutely beautiful and the ceremony was right on the water. It was a perfect day for a perfect couple, Congratulations Lindsay & Matt!**

In part one we talked about how to dress casually elegant for a day time wedding; therefore, it is only natural to discuss evening-wear. There is something ultra glamorous about evening events, I just picture dim lighting, glimmering decor, and an overall romantic atmosphere. Now, what do we wear?

Bright colored prints and pieces of that nature should be kept during daytime events. For evenings, think romantic soft hues and deep jewel tones, add interest with accessories or unique silhouettes and details. It is important to remember to be tactful when you are putting your look together, “too much” can be easily obtained and will overwhelm your elegance. One statement making piece will be plenty, the rest should just compliment and flatter.

1) Color: This season I’ve been loving really soft blush nudes. These colors look so chic any time of day so they will transition perfectly when the sun sets. Especially if the wedding is outdoors, the evening light can sometimes make you want to dress super vibrantly, but keep in mind that it will eventually get dark. Deep jewel tones are also amazing options for evening weddings and look incredible in all lights. The dress style can be anything from all over lace to a flirty A-line, just be sure it is appropriate for the occasion. Keeping colors simple and neutral will allow you to re-wear the dress to other weddings or events styled differently each time. I recommend making sure you are aware of the bridesmaids dress color before choosing a colored dress, just in case the bride picked it for her ladies.

2) Metallic: Can’t pick a color? Try a dress in a metallic tone or a black dress with metallic details. These will sparkle and shine all night no matter the lighting, so you will surely stand out amongst the other guests. The style should be sleek and a bit refined, since you probably don’t want to appear like you stepped off the stage in vegas. Amp up the class by targeting your favorite features without revealing everything at once, it is a wedding after-all.

3)Bits & Baubles: Over accessorizing is done much too often, but is easily avoidable. To some, getting dressed up entails putting on a necklace and matching earrings and bracelet. If you want to wear a statement necklace there is nothing wrong with that, but just be sure not to wear statement earrings too. Try it in front of your mirror, put on a statement necklace with statement earrings, then take the earrings off and replace with studs or something simple, you’ll most likely notice that the two together aren’t necessary. If your dress or shoes are what you want to draw attention to then tone down the jewelry and just use it for accent and extra shine. Don’t forget that a nice cocktail ring can make a powerful statement too!

Personally, I don’t like to attend weddings with a bag because I just feel it gets in the way and its one more thing to worry about all night, I prefer to use my handy dandy date’s pockets, or my mom’s purse at a family wedding. If you absolutely need to carry a bag just make sure it is either your statement piece or complimentary to your outfit. A wedding is the perfect occasion to be the most glam version of yourself, just make sure you aren’t super uncomfortable or you won’t have a good time. If you’re not able to dance in it, don’t buy it!

Weddings Part 1: Day Weddings

wedding13unnamedwedding2wedding12wedding3wedding6wedding9wedding10wedding8Tis the season, wedding season that is, I’m sure many of you have one or more to attend this summer. The warm weather and relaxed season are the perfect recipe for love birds tying the knot. As a wedding guest, you’ll have to plan what to wear which can be time consuming and stressful. To make it simple, take into consideration the time of day that the wedding takes place. Typically events in the evening are more formal and events during the day are more casual, unless otherwise specified by your invitation. Use this as a general rule of thumb to narrow down the options and help your outfit not be extremely over the top or too underwhelming. I feel that there is a certain casual elegance you can achieve at a day-time wedding that differs tremendously from evening-wear. You can find pieces that will stand out on their own or dress up a simple design with the perfect accessories.

1) Print & Color: If the wedding takes place outdoors, this option will be perfect. Your ensemble will have visual appeal while not being overly formal, great for an outdoor setting. Bright floral prints are exceptionally beautiful and will photograph great in the daytime sun. Look for fit-and-flare styles that are ultra flattering on many different shapes as well as super flirty and feminine. You’ll also be able to wear whichever dress you choose any day of the week and not be wasting your money on something for a wedding.

2) Maxi’s & Jumpsuits: To opt for something modern and unexpected, try jumpsuit or maxi dress. These options can be solid, printed, basic, or anything in between. No matter your age, body type, or personal style, you will certainly find a great maxi dress or jumpsuit to wear to your event. It is so easy to elevate even the simplest versions with the right accessories.

3) Accessories: Here is where you’ll be able to transform a seemingly casual dress into one fit for a wedding. In some cases, the items stated above might not be quite enough on their own, so it is up to you to add the bells and whistles, or sparkle and shine and complete the look for the occasion. A wedge or strappy heel will be an ideal option for your feet. Also, your jewelry shouldn’t be too overwhelming, so choose one statement accessory and have all others be complimentary to that.

Naughty Nautical

nautical1nautical4nautical2nautical3nautical5 nautical7nautical10nautical9nautical11With the spring weather shifting into summer in the blink of an eye, I saw it fit to get nautical and kick the new season off right. In past years, I dressed in nautical inspired ways because I thought it looked cute and it was what I saw others doing. Now that I am truly identifying with my personal style I didn’t seem to fit the cookie cutter look most nautical themes portray. I felt; however, that I couldn’t just take this look off the menu for summer, but rather cater it to a style that reflects me. Nautical fashion is a summer staple that is here to stay, from navy and white, to anchors and boat shoes, it’s a great go-to when the warm weather hits. Play up an old classic to give it a modern twist with some edge. Add your personality and finishing touches and you’ll be ready to tackle the sweltering heat of the summer months without playing a game of “bitch stole my look” with a Sperry mannequin.

1) Distressed Pieces- wearing distressed clothing is and easy way to add an edge to any outfit. Keep the color scheme in line with the old classic, reds, blues, and white, and add some visual interest with different textures, shapes, and styles. This year crochet is a big trend for the warmer months, it will be great for adding an unexpected texture. Fringe is also a good choice for making a bold statement while remaining within the nautical color palette.

2)Mixed Metals- For many years mixing silver and gold was a major faux pas. Some still shy away from it, but it’s definitely on the rise. It gives any classic look a splash of modernity. Look for statement necklaces and bracelets that will provide some depth to your outfit. The best part about metals is that they are neutral and can be paired with so many different things, so you will be able to wear these pieces many, many more times.

3) Finishing Touches- Nothing says edgy like some studs and a dark lip. Put away your anchor accessories and opt for some with rocker-chic studs. Doing so will also add to the mixed metals effect. Try a pair of gladiator sandals for a masculine but still elevated edge. Lastly, throw it back to the grunge era with a dark red lip color to add the final touches to your look.

The nautical style is a staple for summer and will be around for many years. Try experimenting with different variations of the style and cater it to your own personal taste. Spring Blush Crush

image7image4image5image8image1image6

Every season has it’s colors, some trendy, some staples, and others vary by personal preference. Lately, I have been obsessing over dusty pink/blush tones, whether its on my nails, lips, or part of my outfit, I just can’t get enough. In addition to this color being my latest obsession, it is one of the must have colors of the season. I love colors that are versatile and complimentary to a variety of different skin tones and hair colors, making them essential musts for all wardrobes. Not only is a blush shade suitable for many different people based their skin tones, but also for all unique personal styles.

No matter what your day to day style or need is, I’m sure you have room for this color in your life, whether you’re style is business professional, edgy, over-the-top girly, or anywhere in between, you can certainly fit this color into your closet. If your preference is to have an accent piece or a head to toe outfit, you will definitely find something in a dusty pink that suits you perfectly.

1) Business Professional: Your current wardrobe may contain countless blazers, structured blouses, pantsuits, and a whole lot of neutral colors. In the business world, there is always room for a pop of color, especially when that color won’t overwhelm the ensemble, but rather kick it up a notch. Try some pieces that will make a great accent piece to your current structured look. A soft pink pump or a blush manicure are a great place to start. If you’re feeling a bit more wild, try a structured dress, or a pantsuit in the same hue and it may be the refreshing new addition your closet had been needing.

2) Edgy: If your style is on the edgier side of the spectrum, look for items that have studs or cutouts, or pair a feminine blush top with a leather jacket and distressed denim. Maybe you’d rather accessorize with a touch of pink rather than dive full in, there are endless possibilities for that case, from bags, to shoes, to scarves, you can certainly find a statement piece that meets your style. Try layering a blush bralette under your favorite studded jacket, or open back top. This will add a touch of femininity without sacrificing your overall look.

3) Girly girl: You should have no issues looking for dusty pinks that fit your girly-girl style. From frilly mini skirts, to crochet blouses, and flowy maxi dresses, there are plenty of options for you. Jazz up your look with a bold print that contains a muted pink or a blush shade to make a major statement without being overwhelmingly pink. A great pairing for a light pink dress or skirt is a denim jacket, it will add some depth to your look while still keeping it ultra feminine.

As summer approaches, blush is an excellent option to wear to an upcoming wedding, graduation, or other formal event. Due to its immense versatility, you can use accessories to cater the outfit to your personal style. Even if you only want to keep it subtle, I strongly recommend investing in a few blush pieces and they will take you well into the summer months.

Safari Craze

unnamed

Cargo shorts, khaki vests, and hiking boots are all things you would wear if life ever took you on a safari through the savannahs of Africa. That would be an amazing opportunity, but let’s face it, if you wore this type of gear in everyday life, you might be mistaken for the Crocodile Hunter (RIP). This spring you can channel a glammed-up version of Eliza Thornberry and tackle the jungle of your everyday life, whether it’s urban, rural, or somewhere in between. The spring runways were full of safari inspired silhouettes, colors, and prints making this trend a must-try.

1)Dresses and Rompers: No matter where you go this season, the neutral palette of a safari will fit in perfectly, and also give you an edgy military chic look. Find shirtdresses that have a lot of pocket and zipper details, the more cargo-ish the better! Complete the look with a thick waist belt in a brown to offset the lightness of the beige/khaki dress. If you’re loving rompers as an alternative to a dresses, then a structured olive romper with buttons, zippers, and pockets will certainly do the trick.

cn9552342nlstt3004110719_p3_1-0._QL90_UX150_anf_90848_01_model1

2) Tops and Bottoms: It might be slightly more difficult to put together a safari-wear inspired top and bottom while avoiding looking like you just got back from an excursion. Keep one piece simpler than the other in order to create a cohesive look that isn’t too overwhelming. The color scheme can range anywhere from browns to beiges or olive greens, sticking to this neutral color palette will be key. Incorporate white or black to elevate the ensemble for dressier occasions; for example, an olive shirt with white denim or a black top tucked into khaki shorts. Don’t be afraid to tackle the full on head-to-toe safari color pallete, then leave it to accessories to amp up the glam factor.

hmprodMICH-WP105_V1cn9411196

3) Shoes and Accessories: Make a bold statement with some really heavy gold jewelry or accessorize with animal prints inspired by the creatures you’d see on a real-life safari (cheetahs, leopards, giraffes, zeebras, snakes). Geometric pieces are also a great option. A head to toe structured, khaki outfit can come across as a bit masculine, so dressing it up with feminine pieces is essential. A heel is a perfect and easy way to elevate any look while making it more feminine. Toss on a scarf, belt, or hat and you’ll be easily distinguished from any tour guide or park ranger.

The best part of this trend is that you can put it together with an entirely neutral palette; therefore, if you already own some pieces or if you buy them for this look, you’ll be able to wear them over and over again and transform them with different items. Although this look leans more on the casual side, there are still so many places and occasions you can wear it and not look out of place. After-all, life itself is very much like the wild.

70’s Inspired Flares

Spring is all about new beginnings, the snow melts away, the birds return, and the flowers bloom. This season breathes new life into an old school staple that we have all know and love, flared denim. When skinny jeans became popular, it took me a while to get into them, but once I did, there was no going back. I don’t think skinny jeans will ever die, but they are now sharing the spotlight with the must have new (old) style that has taken over. Change up your denim game while also channeling the 70’s this season with a modern twist on the oh so groovy classics. unnamed70's style70s1closeup2I dug out an old pair of flares I’ve been saving for when they made a comeback, and decided to put together a full on 70’s outfit. The best way to achieve a 70’s inspired look is to find the perfect silhouette, texture, colors, and accessories. In order to avoid looking like a Halloween costume, mix and match modern pieces with vintage inspires ones.

1) Silhouette: Look for flares that are form-fitting and hug every curve that start to flare out below the knee. An amazing thing about flares is that they make the legs appear so much longer than they are, so wearing a heel will increase this effect. Tuck a looser fitting top into the front and you’ll be just about ready to go.

C2558_DM0924_m4473004250_1_1_1new_91_715_6598_019_39

2) Texture: In the 70’s suede was a must have texture and it’s making a comeback for 2015. Yes, suede has been here all along, but now its become big in the form of button-downs and skirts. Also fringe has made a comeback recently and it’s a great way to add more texture and volume to your outfit.

81zKGap90aL._UX522_leith-washed-suede-tee-magenta-x-smalls156053_ace_jacket_331_chalk_052

3) Colors: The popular colors of the time were mostly earth tones, burnt oranges, and turquoises. Make your look more modern by avoiding the “matchy-matchy” accessories and play with different shades of the same color. Back in the day matching your shoes to your belt and your bag was all the rage, but today not so much. It’s way more chic to mix neutrals and colors that complement each other and go together than it is to match everything perfectly.

13Q22HRST_2_thumb600x90000136672-02

4) Accessories: Put the icing on the cake with a pair of aviators, a fringe bag, and some awesome wooden-like wedges. Add some jewelry to finish it off and your chic 70’s inspired outfit will be complete!

8053672339000_shad_fr KAOVEN_28_RG_32411354_01_2

There’s a reason the styles from the 70’s consistently pop up in the modern world, because they’re versatile and never get old. Flares give you the added bonus of making you look taller and give you a more interesting silhouette. Texture is important to incorporate into your outfits, try suede and fringe to add some dimension to your look. Play with the earthy-inspired tones of the decade and give your ensemble a modern twist by resisting the urge to match everything. Lastly, add the perfect finishing touches with accessories to work some more 70’s inspired pieces into your outfit.

Black and White: Spring Style

Happy spring everyone!

unnamed2unnamed

Here in New England, just because its officially spring we may not be free of snow quite yet. The few 40+ degree days we’ve had so far have been amazing and refreshing, but I’ve noticed a lot of people taking the nicer weather to extreme measures when it comes to their outfits. No joke, I’ve seen people wearing flip flops, shorts, tank tops, etc. in temperatures between 40-50 degrees. Although it makes me over the moon to see the temperatures slowly rise, it makes me cringe when I see people dressed for summer this time of year, they must be freezing! I think that it is important to dress appropriately for the season and the weather collectively. That’s why I love that black and white fashion is big this spring. We all own black and white clothing because it is so multi-seasonal and diverse that it will never go out of style. I especially like this trend for early spring because you can incorporate both winter and spring pieces to complete this look, and be dressed for the current windy, rainy, and muddy weather conditions. This season its all about black and white prints. What better way to try something new than in black and white. Experiment with a print on top, bottom, or head to toe, this classic color combination will never get old.

1) Tops: If you’re afraid of print then doing it in black and white is a perfect way to ease into it. A print can be as bold as a large floral or as subtle as a striped t-shirt. Even a color blocked top will add some dimension to your outfit. If you want, you can keep your bottom half solid, which can also make room for a more dramatic print on top.

image1xl00138670-01cn9230872

There are so many possibilities for black and white on top of your outfit and you can pair it with virtually anything you choose, just make sure if you are mixing prints on top and bottom you keep them similar so your outfit isn’t too overwhelming.

2) Bottoms: Black and white bottoms can be so classic and chic, you can go completely bold and try something unexpected, or keep things simple with a black and white gingham or a stripe accent down the leg, whatever you are comfortable in you will be making a trendy statement.

TopshopPTY2F825_003new_92_728_8560_014_01

While wearing a bold print on the bottom, you’ll want to keep your top half simple with a solid black or white. Although this trend is head to toe black and white, you can mix and match these pieces with anything and wear them on so many different occasions. If you want to add a pop of color anything will match perfectly because your bottom half is completely neutral.

3) Head to Toe: If you have trouble finding similar pieces to match together, then a dress or jumpsuit is a perfect option. Like the above choices, pick something that won’t be too overwhelming on your body type. Be bold or subtle, however you’re comfortable, you will look amazing in this classic combination.

WQR9C701_00350458.0.browse-l280x420

The black and white trend is so great for this time of year because you probably already have the pieces to make it happen! If you want to try something new, you’ll be able to wear it over and over again and pair it with different things each time. No matter how simple or loud your taste is, you will be incredibly put together, whether you are at work, out for lunch, or at a bar.
